New USC head coach Lincoln Riley has been on the job less than a month. The new man in charge for the Trojans is getting used to the city of Los Angeles.
A native of Muleshoe, Texas, Riley made the jump from Oklahoma to USC and the big bright lights of Los Angeles. For Riley, it’s taking some time to settle in, as he told ESPN’s Paolo Uggetti in an exclusive story about the head coach:
Riley does not feel quite settled in yet. The past three weeks have been a nonstop whirlwind of transition, logistics, travel, strategy and, as Riley put it, fun. Part of that fun has been the slow realization that this is now his new zip code. For someone from Muleshoe, Texas, it will take some time before the sights and sounds of the city fade into the background.
“The first day we got here, we’re driving, just coming down on Figueroa, and I just look down there … and here’s our campus and there’s the Staples Center,” Riley said. “I knew it was close, but not right there, you know?”
So far, the bright lights don’t seem too big for Riley and he has handled a huge platter of tasks, from his introductory press conference to recruiting and everything else.
If he commands the football field the way he has commanded the stage in this first month on the job, Riley could be the king of L.A. soon enough.
El Doctor, as usual you speak with a FORKED tongue. I am disappointed in my #1 Amigo!
silly article. how could anyone feel at home in that dump los angeles, with filth, crime on display, bums, gun fire, helicoptor noise, and all kids of chaos etc. Not sure how anyone could feel at home on a campus that now looks more like china or Iran than America.
I am sure he will live in Pacific Palisades , or one of the nicer beaches, just like every other coach this century at USC.
but if he can find some serviceable kids that can work in the trenches, the window is open to be "king of La". Carroll showed up at the right time as well. Currently the Lakers stink, The dodgers have shot their wad, the kings stink. La has never been an NFL town and The two nfl football teams seem to be just good enough to make the playoffs, and that never works for anyone in LA. but that's about it.
So Ya, Riley has a chance to take the crown and be king of the city. Now if someone can just convince him that defense is worth at least 30 minutes of his full attention per day, and can't be treated like special teams with 15 minutes at the end of practice, the way he did in Oklahoma. sc
