I disagree ... Franklin’s teams play hard. His O is exciting and D solid. His players all look the part and he recruits like a mother F er. His teams play well in big road games ( a big indicator) and he says the right things and acts like a pro. IMO he kills it at USC.
@pat Pete took over the defense in close games and turned the heat up a notch a great deal of the time so I cannot agree with him not being sharp in close games. Unfortunately being forced to play the Tings didn't exactly work out as planned and Stanford was another example of poor play in a couple close games...but I consider those exceptions to his general ability to manage close games. As far as who he hired as OC's and how he became less interested in his program near his closing time at Troy were also issues that had an impact IMHO. What makes you think Franklin would kill it recruiting? His classes haven''t been Top 5 year in and year out and he's located in a football hotspot as well. Ohio St keeps coming into his backyard and taking kids ..even Harbaugh...
@August West It would br surprising if Franklin could pass Foits background screening. Besides the guy may be able to recruit but his coaching regimen is lacking and his big mouth has gotten him in trouble a few times along with his penchant to roll up the score on hapless teams whenever he can...I think USC bcould do a lot better...he does however check the minority box. One other point...what has he done to deserve a big payday in the Big 10 or nationally?
There is a lot of revisionist history going on with the green board, but I stand by my belief that Ed O - while not a good hire for SC - would have been a better hire than Helton OR Sark. Would not have been the right hire, but at least he had been with winning programs and believed in gym work and tackling practice over ice cream.
Guess it's all moot now. What's your take on Dante? I say we have to clean house and start over - go nuclear. His position group stinks, and they can find another recruiter to get enough talent at SC. The only way the school should even *consider* retaining him are if the team hires a HC with defensive chops (a la PC) AND beats the Irish and ucla. Which seems anywhere from highly unlikely to not going to happen. But, stranger things have happened.
@BigBallss may haps. But he wouldn't have been the ass kisser that Helton was, and therefore wouldn't have weaseled his way into all the excuses that the admin gave him. Or been given an extension when nobody else would have hired him. I know Ed O wasn't the answer, just saying imho he was a better option than helton at that time.
Let's track this - who gets hired first, and more importantly who gets the better job. No way Helton wins a natty at LSU. Even with Burrow.
@the909trojan you make some good points but we are still talking about which is better testicular cancer (brrr) or dick cancer. hard to get excited about either (😂) option. I don’t know if coach o will get another hc job. He is nfl bound. he is stacking up an impressive collection of bags. Helton might surface in the western Kentucky type environment.
@DayStalker Probably some secret Chinese guy is the money guy anymore. Hopefully not Fraud, he would hire Jeremy Bates.
If only some of these nfl players and former players who were so excited about helton's hire would get together and make something happen. Pull a Magic Johnson, minus the aids. Does keyshawn own any fatburger franchises, or roscoes?

Too expensive, not enough value there.

Will Rick Caruso pony up that kind of money?
Was kind of hoping for another F. But the school could do worse, that is for sure. If the old guard was still here Ed O would be the next coach lol.
