Todd Marinovich to Johnny Morton!
Now that was a moment
Did it get us into the Rose Bowl? I think it did. We finally beat Michigan State no?
I met Johhny Morton at freshman orientation. Super chill/friendly guy. He said he was on FB team and I remember asking myself if he would be any good??!!! He really was not a big guy.
No Rose Bowl that year. And Michigan State was 3 years earlier.
Entertaining game, though. My favorite play was when Marinovich gave the bird to the Bruin trying to help him up after a hit or sack. Priceless.
throwing out a few names that were omitted here...Luther Hayes, Sam Dickerson, Eric Aftholter, Ben Wilson, Pete Beathard, Willie Brown. All had big moments in beating or disappointing the brunes....
@balls marinovich got nailed on that throw. He had some moxie for sure. Wellman time and time made plays in that game as i recall.
Reggie hurtling the bruin is pure magic, right along with the PC shutout game.
UCLA missed a extra pt conversion or 67 is a tie. That Cade comeback win from 17 down in the only OT game in the series is a classic.
PT that’s a great moment in the rivalry but let me add to the moment. Marinovich described it this way, paraphrase, “Morton lined up for a corner route, the cornerback, Dion Lambert stared me down, so I point at him, and he shakes his head, johnnie winks at me letting me know he will get open. “ go to the 2:50 mark or just watch the whole 5 minutes. Trojan football bitches.
1967 and nothing else comes close.
We lost to Michigan State in the Hancock Bowl(I think) by a single point after the 1990 season. Larry Smith's sole Rose Bowl win was the year before(1989 season) against Michigan, 17-10. This is all from memory.
