"Southern California's coach, John McKay, was upset because his team, ranked No. 1 in the nation, beat Stanford by, only 30‐21 on Saturday, in stead of rolling up a huge margin over the Cardinals.
“I'd like to have won by 2,000 points,” McKay said as he expressed disappointment with his players' performance, dislike for the opponent and the officials, and a desire for heavy‐handed revenge.
The unhappy coach had to settle for the Pacific Eight Con ference victory that was a big step toward a Rose Bowl spot and established the Trojans as the team with the longest cur rent unbeaten streak in major college football‐10 games over two seasons.
“Why is it when we play these hot shots, penalties aren't called both ways?” McKay asked. Southern California was penalized seven times for 66 yards, to two times for 14 yards for Stanford in the game at Stanford.
There was a very long walk from the field to the locker rooms. After Ferd lost, student would line the path jeering and insulting the Trojans. McKay hated Ferd much more than ucla.
