PT there is making a point and there is piling on. Helton is gone. this board can try to return to normal Until the next coach loses his first game. USC needed stability and some class and they got it with Helton. Now it’s time to move on. And there is no guarantee we get the next McKay, Robinson or Carrol let’s hope so
“Failed badly with the Jets”. original. now here’s the TRUTH.
The Jets failed Darnold. Horrible organization, team (especially Oline RB & WRs) & HC. He regressed because they took an ok staff (Bowles) & made it worse (gase who was a failure at Miami)
They also let his #1 WR walk (Robbie anderson) last year and replaced him with a 2nd round pick (mims) who played about 6 games to save a buck. Was always injured. His TE also led the league in drops (for his position) & is no longer on the team.
You don’t know crap about Darnolds JET experience. I do.
This is why MULTIPLE teams wanted him even tho he was going into his 4th year at a hefty price tag & Carolina already exercised his 5th year option which is even more. (Both $15M-$20M) or something close). They traded 3 picks to grab him as well. Jets didn’t fire sale him even with a $20M price tag. You should process that.
I keep reading tampons saying that Who ever said Darnold was the problem. Problem for what? He was a good college qb who turned the ball over to often and ran up and down the field but was inefficient. As all helton offenses were. Drafted high amd failed badly with the jets. IMO he left too early. Think I was right. Hopefully his career gets a restart now.
just exactly what was his fault and who is saying that? Or is this again a childish ploy to put words into people’s mouths and back them into some corner? Yeah. Thought so
@Java To be fair Java, several posters on the old board were claiming that Darnold’s turnovers were the issue the year after the Rose Bowl and that Heltons coaching wasn’t the reason behind the team’s regression. Several posters.
we don’t have the archives so it’s kind of pointless at this juncture but there was a massive debate about Helton’s coaching chops vs. the players being the issue. I think time has shown that Helton was very much in over his head and that Darnold did elevate that gumbo offense before he regressed. Which raises the question of why Darnold and Slovis both regressed under Helton. And under different offenses. Max B was qb coached by Helton and was no where near ready as a senior to take over.
