The constant movement is going to set back college football game play. Offenses and Defenses are being dumbed down. Okla State didn’t get their entire base offense installed until Oct last year because they got 8 offensive transfers in and 6 out in August. This is becoming more of the norm. OC’s and DC’s are now simplifying their schemes to make them almost universal. This supposedly levels the playing field. There is major concern amongst college coaches about this, and they are starting to bitch to their AD’s about this. The remedies are stop the transfers (isn’t going to happen) scrap the 20 hour rule, the guys are not in college to play school. The argument about NFL players jumping around doesn’t work because the NFL is a 24/7 365 job and they are adults.
The bigger hypothesis of this podcast though, was that a service academy team will make a deep playoff run. Probably not this year, or next but at the current transfer rate, roster turnover is 30% of scholarship players, it will happen. Service Academies don’t allow transfers, they get kids for 4 years, they are smart and they run complicated schemes, especially on offense, and a senior laden service academy team will make a deep playoff run at some point. The thing holding them back will be defense and depth. But Navy playing Auburn with 11 defenders who have spent maybe 4 months together, playing a vanilla D, having 2 weeks to prepare for a triple option. Then a week later Navy vs Penn State. The other point is the triple option is portable, weather shouldn’t be an issue. Rain may hinder it, but rain will hinder both teams. I don’t know if I totally agree with this but a week to prepare for a triple option in a win or go home game absolutely terrifies me. Now the powers that be will seed to handicap the service academy but it’s interesting.
UGA has seen a 60% turnover in 2 years, now a lot of that is players getting arrested for DUI and speeding but 60% is 60%. The avg yearly SEC transfer turnover is 47% not counting graduation, early NFL or kids quitting football for any reason. The other factoid is that power 5 lose underclassmen the non power 5 lose upperclassmen. Which is making the non powers a minor leagues for the power 5. This is not good. As an example, USC gets a 4 or 5 star WR from Corona Centennial, spends 1 year at USC and RS, then transfers to UNLV spends two years, then transfers to Florida. The only positive and this is anecdotal is that college coaches are saying that the last chance transfers the RS Seniors and Jr’s who move from non power 5 to power 5 are more mature and come in ready to work. It has become a steadying influence.
I don’t agree
Carrell built an absolute monstrosity of a home in Toluca Lake. Bought up 2 or 3 lots and put up a stone monolith looking home. It’s a cut seven iron from me. Not even behind gates, though not every celebrity in Toluca Lake is behind gates.
I have been away honing my game by the way. Shot an 82 at Wilshire last Saturday. Backed it up with a 78 at Lakeside this morning.
I am in the maket for new clubs though. I am a Calloway guy, but am thinking about switching to Titlest or TaylorMades. Need a new bag too mine took a dump. Anyone here like the Sunday bags?
