One cool thing about joining a brand new conference for us is the new traditions we'll see and become a part of. One of the more recent ones is the B1G Map Commercial first produced in 2014. Apparently it's a "B1G" thing for the fans there, and it is a pretty cool animated representation of those things unique to each of their schools.
Link below to the commercial and to a guy analyzing all the easter eggs and details for each Big 10 school in the animations, plus the current commercial in real time.
Apparently they will revise it for the coming season adding the 4 new schools.
The iconic things representing Oregon you might see are the Harley that leads players out onto the field, 4th quarter "Shout" (it's cool how they were able to creatively incorporate Jump Around visually for Wisconsin), Deady Hall, a Nike shoe (of course!), the Duck, exterior of Oregon's football facilities, the Oregon "O" hand sign. Wonder what icons they'll use to represent your former p12 school?
For Oregon you can list the Harley’s. The angry people. Government buildings being torn up and lit on fire. Homeless people in the park. I think showing Phil knight smoking meth to represent the Oregon fan base might be a nice touch
Who the heck gets credit for the lost years with tennis larry? Seppeku rquired? Deserved?
In my opinion everything in life goes in cycles. We are in a cycle of conference consolidation. For whatever reason there’s more money in bigger.
I have long said. And still believe. That the eventual outcome will be for the big ten to have two halves. Basically it will become its own ncaa. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
For now I think we will see the pac put back together in the form of uo uw usc ucla probably eventually Stanford and Kal. And Nebraska and Iowa perhaps.
On the other side we are bound to see Minnesota Wisconsin Illinois northwestern. MSU. Michigan. Purdue Indiana Ohio state Rutgers Maryland and state Penn.
Yes I realize that’s 8 and 12. Perhaps
More will be added and there will be 3 or 4 divisions.
I think the rose bowl will eventually resume its place as the chaoption of the east meets the chaoption of the west. Perhaps as a conference title game. I think the division of the conference will enable them to cut down on travel.
I also think the division format will give birth to demands for a championship. A playoff within the big ten and eventually adding on more schools and a removal from the ncaa
This will allow the big ten to control scheduling. All revenue home and a away. And maybe even allow schools from the mac or big west or mtn west or whatever to be part of the “organization” if not the conference. This will enable the b10 teams to schedule a few non conference warm up games and for the conference to co tell ever dollar. Every tv appearance. And then every championship
I am guessing the sec will do the same and we will enter a period. Probably after I’m dead. When we again have split national championships and arguments over whose champion is better. Just like we did when we had AP and UPI National champions.
What goes around comes around. History repeats. Always. And money is usually at the center of movement. I think what I described above will occur a decade at a time and take 30-40 years to evolve
Just watching that commercial reminds me of how draining the travel is going to be for many of these teams, particularly the West Coast teams. And especially in basketball. This is not the NBA, and we're going to see that very soon.
