Baylor unfortunately was injured several times missing two playoffs during his career and served in the military during the season and got out of shape returning to play. When West played with Wilt Chamberlain when he was traded at 32 years old and he then missed almost one complete season with the Lakers by only playing in 12 games. These elements meant he did a good part of his work without the kind of support he had to play against. There was a reason West was named The Logo and Mr Clutch...
Only because he never coached Jerry West would he make that statement and Jordan wasn't the greatest player ever. He was the most publicized. I'd take Larry Bird in a minute over Jordan and I'd argue Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell were up there as well...but for an all around guard who played both ends of the court what West did in a league that was tougher than and more physical it can be said no one ever played in any NBA finals series as well as West did 1965 when he averaged 46.3 points per game
MJ never beat Larry Bird and had nothing but animosity about it.......MJ was protected by the officiating in his whole career and not only changed the style of play in the NBA but also the style of officiating...and MJ played during the three point ara of the NBA and was on e of the worst 3 point shooters in history. Bird would have scored like crazy if he had played during his whole career during that ara. so I disagree on who was the better scorer. When you consider that as well as how officiating impacted both players in a time when the NBA went from tough defense to soft defense in respect to Jordan..
You ever hear of the Jordan Rules the pistons had for MJ?
No they weren’t soft on him.
Fair point about the 3 point era. Very valid. Shooters don’t need to play above the rim. Look at Klay and Curry. Bird could def have been those dudes shooting 12 threes a game. He would have been scary
One team....again the league was softer overall than before ...ever heard of Clyde Lovellete(sp) he made Bill Lambier look like an angel...the whole league had guys that would just brutalize you...not like when Jordan played...and with the three point rule they opened the lane for driving the ball to the basket ( Jordan's strength) whereas if you entered the paint before that you got hammered by guys that didn't care if they put you in the hospital
West lost a lot of championships to Boston. Maybe he wasn’t great in the clutch.

Until He coached Jordan in Olympics?
No one is or was better then 23
