Interesting to who? The dead horse you guys keep beating? Can't we just call a draw and walk away with some dignity? Something tells me that this will be going back and forth in 2030 w/ neither side backing down.
Um, thats the point of sabermetrics. Guys like this were worshipped in the 70's. Like Pete Rose
So you like this argument that JR and Theo and Andrew subscribe to, but you hate the devaluing of the RBI. And BTW, the run scored I THINK had also been devalued. Not sure on that one.
The stolen base and the bunt have been devalued, reduced, and the hit and run is 99% gone.
And there is no such thing as a "clutch" hitter long term.
Everything returns to the mean
Like it or not, the stats guys who live on probabilities believe the above. Tilt against all the windmills you want, but this is how baseball is managed today and the above is what they will or won't pay for
I remember Brett Butler and Ricky Henderson. Dudes who led off, could bunt, steal bases and hit for a high average.
But is .388 vs .365 career OBP the difference between a sure fire HOF and being useless? I wouldn’t go that far. Over the course of a season of 650 at bats (4x162) that is 13 more walks/hits over the course of a season. Or 2 per month. Thats not a lot.
Walks to increase OBP has been a big change since Moneyball. And I don’t hate it. But a walk isn’t as valuable as a hit especially with men on base, let alone scoring position. But OBP says they are. For you to ignore that is just being silly and stubborn. I like high OBP guys. I love high RBI guys.
This guys arguments against arraez are good. I think he is a 2 time
Batting champ. He can’t run. He has zero pop. He doesn’t hit with RISP. These are all additional issues that make Sense. No One stop Shopping on a player. 5 tool game.
Lots of variables.
This in no way discusses RBIs. So that’s a giant reach on your part. as usual. 🐥
