The question, to my understanding, is (and I'm doing my best not to rephrase the question to be snarky/beneficial to my side): Can you expect people, even the poor and uneducated, be expected to make decisions based on self respect and pride.

Rephrasing a little bit in my favor this time: Can you expect someone to choose to not be a leach when it isn't in their favor because it is the 'Right Thing'
