The domer infestion of the board occured in the spring after the hiring of Weis. About 8 months before the 4th and 9 game in October of '05.
They came here en masse that spring, the lurkings, loyalson/bookies goon character and a few others, pounding their collective chests, pronouncing to everyone that ND is back and confronting anyone who offered a dissenting opinion. The clash with the USC fans was inevitable.
You were right however that before then, this was strictly a west coast football board and ND was hardly ever a topic on the board. And on the rare occassion that it was, the discussion was mostly civil and very matter of fact.
Oh well, the good old days....
