take the best players you can get, regardless where they come from.
I don't see it as a good strategy to take lesser players so Pac-12 programs don't get them. There's plenty of talent there and limited scholies, SC can't prevent Oregon, Cal, Washington, and yes even UCLA from getting some solid prospects regardless of where they are getting their players.
I also don't think recruiting nationally is going to lead to recruits in the future shunning SC. Is that what this poster is insinuating? What does he think that tomorrow's local five stars are gonna be like "aww man SC is recruiting elite players all over the place, fawk those guys! I'll show them. Cal it is!"

Just an FYI, SC has 8 of California's top 15 prospect according to Rivals and will probably end up with 9 or 10.
