Plus One...

was always fine with me. All I ever wanted was one more final game between the two teams that looked like they deserved it the most after the major bowls had been played and this comes damn close to that.

The last thing I want is a bunch of two-loss and even three-loss teams complaining they didn't get their fair shot at a national championship. If you lose a couple of games, your complaining rights are gone in college football, which makes this sport special - at least in my mind.

For instance - that USC team of 2002 that everyone likes to talk about so much. No way they deserved the national championship, or a shot at it. They may have been playing great at the end, although I thought Iowa looked slow, overconfident and over-rated. But when you lose to both Washington State and Kansas State, both good but not great teams, you take yourself out.

Once you've lost a couple of games, you've put yourself in a big boat with a lot of teams. And everyone's got their subjective supporting arguments. If you luck out, more power to you, but don't count on it. As Wallace said in Pulp Ficton, "You lost your L.A. privileges."
