The good news is, expect that type of thing to only happen at the very beginning of the season (certainly not during conference play).
I'm not sure why they don't move some of the start times around, but the host schools were probably being stubborn. Maybe something that will be fixed next season, with this first year being a test-run?
I also don't know why they can't do what the Big10 network does, which is have 1 or 2 "alternate" feeds which are only active the few times a year they are double or triple booked.
