Interesting question

You can't deny the prestige of a Stanford degree. If you want that prestige, then Stanford is the obvious choice. Even though SC has closed the gap considerably in terms of what both schools offer in the classroom, there is still a large gap in the general reputation and perception of the two schools.

But carrying around a Stanford degree does not guarantee you anything. The same goes for an SC degree. Ultimately, you have to prove yourself. That being said, we all know that who you know can be as important as what you know. So, if someone is from southern California and intends to work and live here, then a USC degree may be more valuable as far as connections and networking. Stanford does not have a large pool of alumni in any one city because most of their graduates are spread out across the country and the world. USC alumni, on the other hand, mostly live in southern California. The likelihood that you will walk into an office and be interviewed by a USC grad is far greater than being interviewed by a Stanford grad. Whatever advantage the Stanford degree has it is probably marginalized when a USC alum is seeking a job from a USC alum.

So for a legit pro football prospect from So Cal who intends to eventually live and work in So Cal after their playing days, then I think the SC degree is just as valuable, because of the connections. Outside of So Cal, then the Stanford degree would be more valuable.
