when Rich Rodriguez was hired at Arizona he arrived with a reputation of being an offensive mind and a recruiter. Rodriguez then hired his old West Virginia defensive coordinator, Jeff Casteel, to run that side of the ball (Casteel didn't follow Rich Rod to Michigan, and that is believed to be a big part of the reason Rodriguez failed there). so hopes were high. the guys on espn made a big deal out of this hire and said "we know one thing for sure, Rodriguez will be a 'great' recruiter and he'll have Arizona's offense at an explosive level in a hurry." when Casteel left WV for Arizona, the program seemed set.
and then signing day came.
what the hell was that? i realize that stars and rankings aren't a perfect science but give me a break. they didn't sign one significant name.
both, Scout & Rivals, had the Wildcats with the #11 class in the Pac-12, signing either 1 or 2 4-star recruits, depending on who you believe. meanwhile ESPN has Arizona listed as having signed 1 guy (ONE) from their Western Top-100 recruits. the #12 class in the conference, Washington State, even Wazzu signed 5 from that list.
well, we'll just have to wait and see if this class turns into anything special but i was suprised that Rich Rod didn't land any big name hot shot QB or Rb, for sure.
wasn't Arizona the first of the four to make their hire? he was hired before Thanksgiving, so he had time to recruit.
what a pathetic effort.
