Guess you don't know much as you think

Shaq Thompson was never, ever giving USC any sincere consideration. Shaq would have preferred to play for the University of Tehran than the University of Southern California. Tee Shepard was ND all the way, but only used USC to make sure he was as committed to ND as he thought he was. The fact he entered ND as an EE is all the proof that you need.

As for McCarthy, it doesn't matter how much he claimed to be considering USC, because that is what a top So Cal recruit should be doing, he was looking for any reason to attend another school. It really would not have mattered who ucla hired, in the end, they would have a legit shot at landing him. If not ucla, then he would have chosen Cal and Oregon before ever committing to USC. He never felt a connection to USC and its culture.

Peat is not much different.  He doesn't feel a strong connection to USC. At least he is giving USC a serious look, because he is not stupid and recognizes that USC is an elite program with a position open for him to compete for as a freshman on a team that is an NC contender. Those are obvious reasons to consider SC, but in the long run , the fact he has never been a big SC follower, and his brother and friend/cousin play at Nebraska, will probably be enough to turn him.

So these are NOT players who were all USC, and then somehow got away like DAT did last year. DAT was a true loss, but these guys were never SC and a longshot. We may still land Peat or Murphy, although I doubt it for the reasons i stated.

all that being said, we will still have an outstanding class from top to bottom, and most importantly, unlike previous years, recruited for need. The only area I think we missed was on the DL. But no class is perfect. We always miss out on a few players we think we have a chance at getting. That happened all the time with PC. We always ended up with very good classes, although we were always in a position to potentially have the greatest class ever. But we always lost a recruit or two. That's part of recruiting. You never get every one you are after. In the final analysis you have to look at what you actually have on NLOI day. USC will probably have on average the highest rated players. Could the class have been better, even a lot better? Sure, but that can be said of all classes. The bottom line, we will have one of the better classes in the nation when you look at our 15 players matched against any other school's top 15 players.
