...one small bone to pick.
The 2006 Rose Bowl is a game I will never forget. The second it was over, I erased my DVR copy, and I've never watched a moment of that game since. Because of that, all I have is my memory which could be wrong, of course.
Pete's defense that night was totally beat up. I mean Cushing was playing with one arm. We had a walk on starting at another LB position (no, not Matthews, that kid from Newport Beach. Colin something, I think). Both Tings were playing in the secondary. I'm pretty sure we were out one player on the DL as well.
Now, with all that and with Vince Young playing the game of his life, this beat up defense (one that was also destroyed by Fresno freaking state earlier in the season), held Texas to 27 points with about five minutes to go in the game.
A couple of 4th down conversions. A dropped INT (Ting). A terrible incomplete pass call (it was a fumble) and again, the greatness that night of Young cost us our record setting 3rd straight NC.
Of course, there was more, but my point was the defense. I think Pete did an amazing job that night with what he had to work with.
