He has a hell of a case

I think his case is better than Tebow's.

Took him five games but holy cow once he got the offense, just unstoppable, almost never had games under 60% completions, rarely got sacked, highly efficient.

His second half vs. Texas was nearly perfect (14/16, just that one bad pass to Hancock on third down that Texas had sniffed out, 2 TD). Obliterated Oklahoma.

Held the USC passing offense afloat in 2005 even as it was structurally changed into something less efficient and more vertical which didn't really suit his arm. Essentially hid its deficiencies for an entire season.

His best job was probably early 2004, Bush took over quite a bit but I mean, he played really well against VaTech with Smith, Jarrett in his first game, and McFoy, never really had his TE's healthy that year, Smith went down vs. Cal and Leinart held things together in that challenging game. Situationally just a tough draw for the passing offense in 2004 but Leinart made things easier.

The key difference is that Tebow actually disappointed a bit in 2009, each player at his peak won the Heisman but Leinart was more steady against a steadier stream of competition over the course of his career (Pac-10 secondaries actually have to know how to play coverages and not just play bump and retreat for 60 minutes), performed spectacularly in big games.
